Hal,
I don't have any sort of problem with your reading selections. (I'd tweak you about the Times, because it needs to be balanced with other sources, but it has its value.) I still think adding your local fishwrap gives perspective. I will say that you shouldn't automatically rule out what the government publishes. Just like all the information sources, it has its strengths and weaknesses, and the latter are at least as revealing as the former. Also understand that government bureaucracies, including and especially special commissions, are composed of functionaries who have to be satisfactory to both parties. Deal with what's written on the basis of evidence and content, not a-priori. Otherwise, you risk sounding like a conspiracy theorist. Like the proverbial broken clock, the government may be right about twice a day.
